The soul of this park is its history - the time of the log drives down the river and of lumberjacks who toiled hard during severe winter months in the forests. Today the park has pedestrian trails. lookout points, footbridges, Giant Canyon zip lines, rock climbing, picnic areas, yurts and teepees and a Festival of Lights during Xmas time.

Butterflies, "self-propelled flowers" to quote George Sand, are vital as one of nature's core pollinators. In collaboration with Essential Costa Rica, the Canadian Museum of Nature's "Butterflies in Flight" Exhibition unravelled an up-close mini-world of different species of butterflies. The solarium replicating the Costa Rican rainforest with its tropical plants and waterfall brought into focus the importance of biodiversity and conservation.

Ottawa a capital city that once had a veneer of restraint, of walking the polite middle ground has in recent times found its own expression. The Capital Pride LGBTQ Parade witnessed the biggest turnout to date. Over 150 groups participated in this "Be Loud, Be Proud" Parade with pithy messages that packed punch, poignancy, pointedness as well universal messages of love, acceptance, respect, freedom of expression, openness to an ever changing world where inclusion is key. No matter who you are!
